Pleasant Valley State Prison

This is by far my favorite street sign ever. I’ve driven past it many times over many years and wished I could have snapped a picture of it. This time, I did! :)

This is the first picture in my new “Signs” category, which I’ve moved from my .Mac homepage (since they’re not really supporting iPhoto posting any more). See more signs here.

  1. Was street sign appreciation part of the Braly curriculum? Funny, how I have a collection of sign pictures too.

  2. This sign’s also particularly amusing due to its proximity to “the cows.” Anyone who’s driven by Coalinga on Highway 5 in California (more specifically, the Harris Ranch area about an exit or so north) will know “the moos” — it’s an area that’s approximately a mile to mile-and-a-half *square* of moo-moos (N36° 18′ 23.58″, W120° 16′ 13.26″).

Suffice to say that on a hot summer day with any mild breeze… just pray that you’re not down-wind or, if you are, the A/C’s been set on recirculate for a few miles prior. If it’s not… you WILL know… you may not see them in the dead of night, but you WILL know they are there…
